Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Ana Whiterose. I am a singer and songwriter from Switzerland.
How did you come up with your artist name?
My name is Anastacia, so Ana is my short name, and this is how people would mostly call me. The ‘Whiterose’ part comes from my love for this specific flower. The symbol of write rose carries many different meanings, but it’s mostly associated with purity and new beginnings. I came up with it when I decided to do music professionally.
How long have you been in the music industry?
I’ve been singing since early childhood. My first official performance happened when I was a teenager, and I made it to the finals of the Kids Voice Tour in Switzerland. In 2019 I signed with one of the most progressive independent record labels in Switzerland, The Hana Road Music Group, and I released my debut single “Behind the Moon” the same year. So technically, I’m in the music industry since 2019, but it definitely feels much longer since music was always my passion.
How did you get started in the music business in the first place?
Once I realized that I’m willing and ready to release my original songs, I started searching for the record label. This is how I found my label which is also based in my hometown, Montreux. I saw everything that they did and it was very inspiring. This is how my professional journey started and I’m very happy about it.
How would you describe your latest single?
I always wanted to be open with my audience, and I write a lot about what I personally experience in life. My latest single “Blind” is no exception. It’s about passion and love, about giving all of yourself to that one person who takes it for granted and is not able to treat you right. I believe there are many cases like this out there, and that “Blind” will resonate with all the people who’ve been through a similar situation.
When can fans expect the visuals for the single?
“Blind” music video is already out on my YouTube channel. I think it perfectly fits the vibe of the song and the emotions I put in the track. So check it out 😉
Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
I like a lot of artists, and I think there is always something you can learn from any new single or video that is being released. At the moment my 2 main inspirations are Billie Eilish and Doja Cat. I love Billie’s songs, her style, and I admire the fact that she is sincere with her audience. And Doja Cat is my inspiration in terms of visual material she releases, how she acts and the energy you feel from her just by watching her music videos.
How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
The inspiration can come to me any time, so I also have my phone with me to be able to record the melody I have in mind or take notes. Then I go over all those small pieces that I have and sometimes they turn into one song. But it’s not always like that. For instance, I wrote my previous single “Breaking” from scratch in a matter of a few hours. The song is about someone I deeply loved and then broke up with. Then I met that person on the street, and I wasn’t ready for that. I came back home and just started writing 🙂
I feel like my songwriting process goes very fast when I experience something, either positive or negative. And when it’s getting hard to cope with all those emotions, I put them on paper 🙂 And then we go through everything together with my team and other songwriters that I work with.
What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?
I have my next single ready and it will be out at the beginning of February 2022 🙂 Can’t tell you now the details, but you’ll be able to see everything yourself soon.
I’m also working on my YouTube channel where I publish covers that I do together with Piano Man. The cover we did for Bella Poarch’s went viral on Tik Tok and YouTube. Madison Beer and David Guetta reposted the covers we did for their songs. I receive a lot of positive feedback from people and from the artists themselves. And I feel honoured and happy, so we will definitely carry on with that 🙂
Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?
As much I’d love to go on tour, it’s still very hard to organize and plan concerts because of Covid restrictions. But we’ll do something once we can for sure 🙂
What did you buy with your first check off music?
I bought some presents for my young brother and sister. I really love them 😉
What are must haves when your in the studio working?
There are 3 things I always need at the studio: my phone, headphones and water 🙂 So I put the headphones on, play on repeat the song that I work on and go around the studio thinking, writing and trying 🙂 In this way, I can isolate myself from everything that happens around me. And I love the studio vibe, it’s very special and motivating.
What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
Not being afraid to try something new – I guess this is that main advice that I followed and that helped me learn something new about myself, about what suits me better, and what is not really my thing. You might have doubts about anything, but you will never know for sure until you try. And that can be applied to anything from the music you write to the styles you chose for the video. Being different and trying different things is important, especially in this business 🙂
Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?
Yes, I will be collaborating with someone and you will see it soon 🙂 It will be different from what I’ve done before, and I’m really looking forward to sharing this piece of work with my audience 🙂
What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?
I’ve collaborated with DJ Rudenko for my previous single “Stone Cold Heart”, and it was an amazing experience. Rudenko brought a completely different vibe to the song, and it was nice to hear the version of my song made by one of the most talented and experienced musicians.
Name an artist(s) that you would love to work with?
It would be a dream come true to work or perform with Billie Eilish! 🙂 I believe there would be a great natural synergy 🙂
Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
I think music is enjoyed for a combination of beats and lyrics 😉 It might be different and depend on the genre of music we talk about. But overall I believe there has to be both an interesting arrangement and a meaningful message.
What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc…)
I think there is always a place for improvement in anything that you do 🙂 At the moment, stage presence is something I’m working on hard 🙂
What’s your all-time favourite song?
That’s a hard question 🙂 I’m a fan of Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles, especially during the Christmas holidays 🙂 Their music makes me feel warm and cosy. But lately, the song I’ve been listening to the most is «Die For You» by The Weeknd. I just love how emotional his vocals are, and the arrangement is amazing, so I’d definitely call it one of my most favourite songs.
What was the last album you listened to?
«Planet Her» by Doja Cat was one of the latest albums I listened to and really enjoyed. I covered two songs from there: «Kiss Me More» with SZA and «You Right» with The Weeknd. Those are my favourite tracks from the album.
Your favourite artist of all time and why?
I listen to a lot of different music, but Frank Sinatra would be the artist ‘of all time’ for me. There are pieces of music that are like golden standards of quality. For me, Frank Sinatra is the artist who will always be known, listened to and loved.
Whose your favourite five artists right now?
Well, Billie Eilish and Doja Cat for sure! I really like Adele and I’m happy that she is back with a new album, I covered her «Oh My God» track 🙂 I also like Aya Nakamura and Mahmood.
In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
I think, Ariana Grande would be one of the most influential artists for me. She is a true professional, and I’ve been following her career for a while now. She’s been successful for a long time now which is very hard taking into account the number of songs released every single day. I would definitely name her one of the most beautiful and stylish women in the industry. She is also a socially active figure, who donates to charities and really helps those in need. And I think her influence goes far beyond the music industry.
Who have been some of your favourite artists that you’ve been able to work with?
I didn’t have that chance yet, since I’m at the very beginning of my career. But I hope I’ll work with my favourite artists in the future.
How do you feel about the current state of music?
To be honest, I have a mixed feeling about what’s going on in the industry now. On one hand, we have all those digital tools and platforms that really made it easier for artists to produce and distribute the music themselves. We have all sorts of social media apps and formats which you can use for building your fanbase, communicating with them and sharing your songs with all the countries in the world. And this is just crazy if you think about it. But on the other hand, I feel like the flow of music has just become enormous, and it’s difficult sometimes to find something that is unique and special.
Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?
The music video for my single «Breaking» won Silver Screenings at Berlin Music Video Awards 2021, but unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to perform there due to Covid restrictions… GRAMMYs of course would be in the least of my dream show to play at one day. I guess this is something the majority of artists dream about and work for 🙂
What is your main goal as far as music?
I wouldn’t call it a goal, but it is definitely something I would really want is to help those people who feel lonely and emotionally lost to find inspiration in my music to fight and be stronger. Or at least feel better after they listen to my tracks 🙂
Who would you say your music relates to the most?
My music relates the most to people who love or are loved at some point in their lives, who’ve been through hard breakups and despair, and to those who after all believe in happiness and the power of love.
What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes youdifferent?)
Every artist is unique in their own way I think. But this is more of a question to my audience I guess 🙂
When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun andrelaxation?
There is not so much time when I’m not in the studio ahaha But when I am I enjoy spending time with my younger siblings in the mountains. I live in Switzerland and the nature here is unbelievably beautiful. It’s like a place of power for me. I also enjoy skiing, it really refreshes me.
If you could work with any producer who would it be?
Working with Timbaland and Pharell Williams would be an honour for me. The tracks they produced forever hit, and the energy they have is just brilliant.
What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?
Personally, I think receiving Silver Screenings at Berlin Music Video Awards 2021 is one of the main highlights of my career so far. There was a lot of work behind this project, and the song means a lot to me.
What is your dream venue to perform at?
I would love to perform for The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. I love the aesthetic of it and the energy coming from it.
What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?
Jane Austen «Pride and Prejudice». A classic! My mother recommended this wonderful book to me.
What’s your favourite sports team and why?
I love basketball! I’m a Lakers supporter. My brother and I used to watch them play.
Whose your favourite actor or actress and their best movie?
Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s amazing in every movie he ever played in. I kinda love them all. But if I had to choose one it would be Gatsby. It’s a masterpiece.
Name someone famous who inspires you and why?
Billie Eilish. She is natural and hardworking. She is definitely someone to look up to, especially for young people.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Definitely more music 😉 New songs in different genres, and new collaborations 😉
